Rauschenberg is recognized for his 'Combines,' a group of artworks incorporating everyday objects as art materials and blending painting & sculpture into one.
In 1950, famed artist Rauschenberg went to Paris, and the series of Black paintings show a transition in inspiration. Painting the black on wood was an innovation by Rauschenberg.
He started by using newspapers as a ground for his sculpture, and he continued to find materials for his pieces on the street. His paintings use tissue paper, dirt, or gold leaf and are conceptual-oriented artwork.
