Lucio Fontana was an Argentine-Italian painter, sculptor, and theorist. He is largely recognized as the founder of Spatialism.

Fontana was fascinated by space. He founded the Spatialism art movement in 1947, not long after the first-ever photos of Earth taken from a rocket appeared in magazines worldwide.
