Artist a day! JOHN CONSTABLE  (1776-1837)  John Constable RA was a British landscape painter. Born in Suffolk, he's known for being the first of this genre to paint scenes from his birthplace, like Dedham.

Constable is one of the best painters who rejected bravura styles in favor of realistic scenes. He believed that most paintings in his day were too theatrical and preferred to paint landscapes as they should be seen, without any exaggeration.

John wrote to his friend John Fisher in 1821 that he should 'paint his own places best'. His paintings have been widely recognized. Most famously, he completed Dedham Vale in 1802 and The Hay Wain in 1821.
