Imi Knoebel  (b. 1940) 

Imi Knoebel is a famous German artist. He uses painting and sculpture techniques that display his minimalistic, abstract tendencies.

"Messerschmitt" (or "knife cuts") is one of the recurring techniques he used, as well as using primary colors in many of his pieces.

Knoebel first started using photography as an independent artistic medium in 1968, following the same path as noted pioneer Joseph Beuys.

For his Interieurprojecten (Inner Projections; 1968-1970), he started using black-and-white slide projections to create an empty square of light projected on a wall or in a darkened room.
