Zobernig's teaching career began at the Academy of Applied Arts in Vienna. He then taught in Germany before moving to Vienna to work as a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts. There, he continues working today.
Zobernig crafts discreet and secretive objects that have to have an in-depth awareness of their surroundings. This includes paintings and sculptures but also relates to architecture and design.
He also designs the whole environment of his artwork, which encourages an all-encompassing awareness. What the work is, how it functions, and how viewers see and interact with it are fundamental principles in Zobernig's work.
