Artist a Day: Douglas Gordon 

Douglas Gordon  (b.1966) 

Douglas Gordon is a Scottish artist living and working in Berlin. He was awarded the Turner Prize in 1996, the Premio 2000 at the 47th Venice Biennale in 1997, and the Hugo Boss Prize in 1998.

Much of what Gordon does is related to memory and repetition in different forms. He uses material from the public sphere and also creates performance-based videos.

In his work, he often turns traditional approaches on their head by playing with time elements and telling tall stories aloud for the camera.

Gordon has also made some photographs, usually by making copies of the same picture with minor changes.  His Blind Stars (2002) features publicity photos from the mid-20th century in which the star's eyes are cut out and replaced with something else.
